SACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 1, 2021 /Christian Newswire/ -- Outside of legal scholars, few Americans know that Roe v. Wade is in fact composed of two, conjoined decisions. And it is the second decision, Doe v Bolton, that actually 'packs the real punch' in the Roe v Wade regimen.

A new book from Brian Johnston, Western Director of the National Right to Life Committee, breaks open the myth of Roe v Wade. Evil Twins – Roe and Doe, How the Supreme Court Unleashed Medical Killing dispels the idea that Blackmun wrote the decisions for women. Blackmun himself admitted and many commentators on both sides agree, Blackmun first had to change the medical profession. He had to remove the Hippocratic Oath as a definitive standard for American medical law and for medical ethics.

In Doe, Blackmun authorized individual doctors to use their personal opinions alone to perform abortions throughout pregnancy, even if there was no physical problem with either mother or child (the famous 'Health exception'), Doe v Bolton @ 183). This 'carte blanche' was explicitly licensed in Doe v Bolton, the 'conjoined decision.' Popular media commentary usually ignores this important aspect of the twinned-decisions.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg did not ignore this and agreed with Johnston's analysis that the combined decisions focus, not on women's rights, but instead on 'freeing the doctor to do whatever they wanted' in performing abortions.  In Roe, Blackmun dismissed a woman's authority or 'right' to make the decision (Roe @ 153). In Roe, the Court expressly rejected the suggestion that abortion is somehow about a woman's 'right to her own body' (Roe @ 154).

In July 2013 Justice Ginsburg told the Chicago Sun-Times that the combined decisions, both now simplistically referred to as "Roe," are, "about a doctor's freedom to practice his profession as he thinks best.  It wasn't woman centered. It was physician centered." (Please listen to this mp3 of Ginsburg's statement)

The popular media regularly ignores key facts of Roe v Wade. By ignoring the key elements of Doe, the popular press has offered a simplistic and distorted view of Roe v Wade to the American public.  Evil Twins - Roe and Doe: How the Supreme Court Unleashed Medical Killing is available on Amazon and wherever fine books are sold.
