WASHINGTON, June 28, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Headlines around the world carry news about forced abortion in China, gendercide of girls in India, Africa and Latin America's continued stand for life, declining birth rates in Europe and, here at home, whether Obamacare as upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court today can constitutionally intertwine abortion in "healthcare" in violation of the consciences of many Americans, -- an issue not involved or decided in the Supreme Court's Obamacare opinion today. At such a time as this one, the Jubilee Campaign, Americans United For Life, The Susan B. Anthony List's Charlotte Lozier Institute, and the Parliamentary Network of Critical Issues are pleased to announce they will be holding a briefing at the Allison Auditorium, 214 Massachusetts Avenue, this Friday, June 29, at noon, open to the public, to speak about the progress and worldwide challenges facing the greatest human rights issue of our times -- the right to life from our conception to natural death. English Parliamentarian, human rights advocate, and the co-founder of Jubilee Campaign, Lord David Alton, in Washington to also address the Third Annual Conference for Coptic Solidarity supporting the many people currently being persecuted for their Christian faith in Egypt, will speak and is expected to say:
"There is an undeniable and intrinsic connection between human rights, human dignity and the sanctity of human life itself. These three must always stand together. When rights are exercised in a vacuum it is catastrophic for the weak and vulnerable. Globally, abortion has become the most lethal weapon of mass destruction. Unborn children are hunted down and eliminated in their millions -- often, in poorer countries, under pressure from western nations. As the story of China's Chen Guang Chen illustrates, this can also involve the mass violation and abuse of women as well as the killing of their children on an industrial scale. Perhaps the story of this remarkable blind man will at last open the eyes of the world to the enormity of what it is that we permit both in our own nations and export or aid and abet in others."
William Saunders. Americans United for Life's General Counsel, will also speak and announce that:
"AUL is delighted to participate in today's briefing that coincides with the release of AUL's new publication, Defending the Human Right to Life in Latin America, prepared in coordination with Latin American lawyers and legal experts. The great human rights issue of our time is the defense of the unborn and Latin America leads the way!"
Rounding out the briefing will be Charles Donovan, President of the Charlotte Lozier Institute and Marie Smith, President of the Parliamentary Network of Critical Issues (PNCI). Mr. Donovan will brief the audience on the most critical right to human life issues currently facing us in North America. Mr Donovan will note that:
"Pro-life public opinion is increasing impressively in most of North America, but public officials continue to react slowly to calls for change in state and national policy. Official indifference to this set of issues is indefensible."
Mrs. Smith will present her brief on the challenges and opportunities for a culture of life in Africa and Asia. Mrs. Smith is expected to note:
"PNCI welcomes this opportunity to highlight the universal respect for the lives of children in the womb that is shared by nearly 140 countries that prohibit or restrict abortion compared to the 56 countries that allow the violence of abortion on demand."
The event will be live-streamed and available for viewing at the Jubilee Campaign Law of Life Project's web site: www.lawoflifeproject.org/event/livestream.
