African-American and White Evangelical Faith Leaders Gather Together for Inauguration Prayer Service for President Obama

Contact: Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, 540-538-4741

WASHINGTON, Jan. 18, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, from 6:00-7:00 P.M.

The service will be at Faith Tabernacle UHCA which is located at  300 A Street NE, Washington, D.C.

Faith Tabernacle is the closest African-American congregation to the United States Capitol Building.

After a bruising election season which divided the two faith communities, leaders now agree it is time to come together in united prayer for our nation and President.

Pastor L. Frazier White II, Pastor of Faith Tabernacle Church, states;

    "In the celebratory season of the inauguration of our President, the church has the opportunity to choose participation rather than segregation and blessing rather than cursing.

    "The Bible doesn't urge us to pray about the president, it tells us to pray for the president.  For only with Gods' help can a leader be an instrument for God's healing of the land and unifying of the people."

Rev. Rob Schenck, President of Faith and Action in Washington, D.C., comments;

    "Our deepest and most meaningful allegiance is to God and that allegiance is expressed best in prayer. No matter where we are on the political spectrum, the best thing we can do for  ourselves, for our country, and for our leaders, is to pray together.

    "This prayer service on the eve of the Inauguration brings together black and white, liberal and conservative, urban and suburban. It's the best kind of unity there can ever be."

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the D.C. based Christian Defense Coalition adds;

    "The 2012 Presidential campaign season was a bruising and difficult one which divided our nation and especially the African-American and White Evangelical faith communities.

    "As the second Inauguration of President Obama approaches, now is the time for our communities to come together in united prayer and purpose seeking God's guidance, wisdom and protection for our President and healing and spiritual awakening for our nation.

    "We refuse to let our differences separate us as we come together in prayer with one voice agreeing with Psalm 33:12 where it says, 'Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,  the people he chose for his inheritance.'"
