WINCHESTER, Va., Mar. 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) has named Dan Busby as its new president, tapping him to lead the national accreditation organization headquartered here.

"After conducting a national search, the board of directors concluded that Dan Busby was clearly the right person for the job," said Michael Batts, chairman of ECFA's board.

"Dan not only has a stellar track record of leadership and innovation in the arena of financial accountability and integrity, but he is a nationally recognized authority on the subject. He is the primary 'go to' person in America on matters related to financial integrity for Christian ministries and churches," Batts said.

"The board of ECFA realizes what a tremendous servant leader we have in Dan, and we are thrilled to have him as president," said Lauren Libby, a member of ECFA's board.

"It is our great honor and privilege to affirm Dan's leadership in this way," added board member Dolphus Weary. ECFA board vice chair, Wes Willmer, further noted, "Dan Busby has the proven experience, support of the staff, confidence of the membership, quality of character and leadership skills to effectively lead ECFA into the challenging years ahead."

"I am extremely humbled and honored to be given this responsibility," Busby said. "Accountability, transparency and integrity have never been more important for churches and Christian ministries and the donors who support them."

For the past 11 months Busby has been the acting president of ECFA during the board's search process. During this period, ECFA experienced one of the largest single-year membership increases in its history and was named one of the "Best Christian Workplaces in America" by the Best Christian Workplaces Institute.

Busby served as vice president and senior vice president of ECFA since 1998.  Prior to that, he served as a volunteer member of ECFA's Standards Committee and in other capacities.

His two tax and finances books, "The Minister's Tax & Financial Guide" and "The Church and Nonprofit Tax & Financial Guide," have been annually revised and published by Zondervan since 1990. Another book, "Donor-Restricted Gifts Simplified," was released in 2007 and is the only book written primarily on this topic.

Busby's career has included 10 years with the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, where he served as controller, 10 years as the founding partner of a CPA firm in Kansas City, Busby & Keller (now Keller & Owens, L.L.C.), and 11 years as the chief financial officer of The Wesleyan Church at its denominational offices in Indianapolis.

Busby is a graduate of Emporia State University in Emporia, Kan., with a master's degree.

He and his wife, Claudette, have two children and two grandchildren.
