WASHINGTON, May 17 /Christian Newswire/ -- Artist/Designer Michael Letney has been invited to Washington, D.C. to participate in a National Memorial Day event that will honor our fallen soldiers and assist their surviving families. Top pentagon officials will also be speaking at the 13th Annual TAPS National Military Survivor Seminar, May 25-28, 2007.

Michael Letney, headquartered in Tulsa, OK, shares his vision of healing and uniting America through his original design entitled Sacrifice for Freedom™.

Letney states, "We are not building a memorial to put in a park.  We have built a memorial that can go into the living room of the family of every fallen soldier so that we can show them that we appreciate the sacrifice that they have made for us and for our country. This artistic sculpture pays tribute to the heroes of the United States Armed Forces without regard to 'political aisle.'  This is not a political statement, but a moral issue. It is up to the citizens of this nation to give needed assistance and rise to our responsibility as Americans."

Ms. Bonnie Carroll from the "Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors" (TAPS) invited Letney to participate in the event after learning of his intentions to raise gift funds by means of his sculpture and the www.sacrificeforfreedom.org web page. Ms. Carroll founded TAPS following the death of her husband, Brigadier General Tom Carroll, in an Army C-12 plane crash in 1992. TAPS works hand in hand with the appropriate federal, state and private agencies but receives absolutely no government funding.

Letney met with and received verbal support earlier this year from Senator James Inhofe from Oklahoma.

In an effort to help military families receive the benefits brought in by sponsorships, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (A.A.F.E.S) plans to provide space in their catalog to feature Letney's fundraising designs.

Letney's "not-for-profit" goal is to find sponsors from across the nation that will provide the necessary funds to memorialize fallen American soldiers. Each participating sponsor will provide a soldiers' family with a framed 3-dimensional sculpture to honor their loved one. Additionally a majority of the incoming funds will go to support these organizations: FisherHouse.org, Brooke Army Medical Center and TAPS.org

Sacrifice for Freedom™ is a tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, who have dedicated their lives and sacrificed themselves so we may live and celebrate our independence. As grateful citizens of this nation, we mourn the loss of these Heroes and honor them by pledging never to forget the sacrifice they made for our freedom.
