CHICAGO, Nov. 1, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ --  Catholicism: The Pivotal Players, created and hosted by Bishop Robert Barron, is a multi-part series that illumines a handful of saints, artists, mystics, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church but changed the course of civilization. The first two of six episodes of Volume I will air on public television stations beginning on November 19, 2016, and are presented by WTTW Chicago.

The two episodes are:

                    Michelangelo
Travel with Bishop Barron as he studies some of the greatest works of art in the world. From the magnificent David in Florence to the unparalleled paintings in the Sistine Chapel to the haunting Pietà in Rome, Michelangelo's legacy reveals the creative potential of the human spirit and shows that beauty is a route of access to the transcendent.

                    St. Francis of Assisi
Journey from the lovely streets and basilicas of Assisi and Gubbio to the gorgeous, remote monasteries of La Verna and Eremo delle Carceri with Bishop Barron as he explores the extraordinary life of St. Francis of Assisi, the little friar from Umbria who became one of the most important and influential figures of the Middle Ages.

"Catholicism: The Pivotal Players provides a particular point of view, a way of seeing into the lives of some of the great influencers and shapers of civilization," said Bishop Barron. "Saint Francis and Michelangelo both display a tenacious faith that makes a constructive contribution to the human project, inviting all men and women to consider possibilities that transcend limitations and challenge the status quo."
