CHICAGO, April 15, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- Good Friday, April 18, 2014, will be marked at 40 locations across America as a day of mourning and prayer for lives lost to abortion. On the day that Christians worldwide observe the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, faithful believers will take time to grieve for the innocent unborn children who are put to death daily almost 2,000 years after the original Good Friday. "The Way of the Cross for Abortion Victims," coordinated by the Pro-Life Action League, also emphasizes prayers for babies at risk of being aborted to be spared and for their mothers to choose life.

Christians of all denominations have been invited to participate in these solemn, ecumenical prayer services. Prayers will be offered for all the victims of abortion -- the children lost, the mothers wounded, the blight brought by abortion to the community -- as well as for those responsible for perpetrating this injustice, including elected officials supportive of abortion and people working in the abortion industry.

"Over 3,300 babies are put to death by abortion every day in the United States -- even on Good Friday," declared Eric Scheidler, executive director of the Pro-Life Action League. "This annual event has proven so impactful that what started in the Chicago area six years ago went national last year." The number of locations across America has increased by 40% since then. Philadelphia, Saint Louis, Denver, Nashville, Milwaukee and Tucson are among the cities in which clergy will lead prayer services outside of abortion clinics.

"Through His Holy Passion, Our Lord united Himself with all the victims of suffering in this life," remarked Scheidler. He added that, "None suffer more innocently than children in the womb whose lives are taken by abortion. None suffer more deeply than their mothers, carrying a heavy burden of guilt and shame."

About the Pro-Life Action League
The Pro-Life Action League was founded by Joe Scheidler in 1980 with the aim of saving babies from abortion through direct action. Not content to await a political or judicial solution to abortion, the League seeks to stop the killing of unborn children right now through all available peaceful means, including public protest, sidewalk counseling, education, youth outreach, and national leadership.
