WINCHESTER, VA, Jan. 13 /Christian Newswire/ -- In response to the worst earthquake to hit Haiti in more than 200 years, the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) has created a banner and link on its homepage for donors so they can connect with its member organizations already assisting or poised to assist in massive relief efforts.

Tuesday, Jan. 12, Haiti's capital city, Port-au-Prince, was shaken by a 7.0-magnitude earthquake, collapsing Parliament, hospitals, schools, churches, hotels and countless homes.

ECFA is highlighting opportunities through its "ServantMatch™" capabilities for those who want to donate quickly, easily identifying organizations working on the ground in the disaster area.

ECFA "ServantMatch™ Haiti" connects donors to 36 faith-based non-profit disaster organizations operating in Haiti. Categories of aid include hunger relief, humanitarian relief and water.

"All of our hearts have been touched by the early reports of the devastation, including loss of life, as a result of the earthquake in Haiti," said Dan Busby, ECFA president. "This is an important opportunity for the Christ-centered community to pray and give generously."

Many organizations will raise money for this disaster -- some of them will be legitimate and some will not be, said Busby. "A host of donors will look to ECFA members as those that have been vetted and accountable to ECFA through its highly respected accreditation process," he said.

"ServantMatch™," a new, one-of-a-kind tool matching donors with specific ministries and other faith-based nonprofits, was added to ECFA's website in November. ECFA members are among the most well-respected and trusted faith-based nonprofits in the world. By utilizing the ECFA website and "ServantMatch™," donors can determine if a ministry is an ECFA member, what the organization's mission is, review important financial information about the ministry and then be linked directly to the ministry's web site for giving.

ECFA, founded in 1979, provides accreditation to evangelical Christian nonprofit organizations that faithfully demonstrate compliance with established standards for financial accountability, fund-raising and board governance.
