GREAT BRITAIN, Oct. 13 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Bible, with its myriad translations and interpretations, can often be difficult to make proper sense of. In his compelling new book, The Believer's Guide to Bible Chronology: From Man's Beginning to the End of Acts (published by AuthorHouse), author and biblical scholar Charles Ozanne presents a chronological interpretation of the Bible that is ideal for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the Bible and Christianity.

In this meticulously researched book, Ozanne traces events of the Bible from the creation of mankind in 4008 BC, right through to the end of the book of Acts. "The method is decidedly traditional-evangelical, but the conclusions arrived at are by no means foregone or predictable," Ozanne asserts in justification of his approach.

The author's strength lies in his combined knowledge of the Bible, Hebrew Old Testament and Greek New Testament, which he accepts without question in their plain, grammatical sense. Starting with the patriarchs, Ozanne discovers a pattern which points to a precise date for the exodus from Egypt. From that point, history is pursued through Judges and Kings "both home-grown and foreign" to the end of the Old Testament. The chronology of the divided kingdom (Israel and Judah) is shown to be internally consistent. The conflicting dates offered by the Assyrian Eponym Canon have also been examined in some detail and likely solutions proposed.

After discussing the Old Testament in detail, Ozanne's chronology of the New Testament begins. He writes:

The New Testament survey covers, among other things, the course of Abijah to which Zachariah, father of John the Baptist, belonged; the role of Quirinius, the Syrian governor who oversaw the registration when Jesus was born; the date of the Nativity itself and the death of Herod the Great; the year intended by the fifteenth year of Tiberius; the length of our Lord's ministry (three years or four); the nature of the Last Supper (Passover or otherwise); the day, date and hour of the Crucifixion (where John is shown to be in agreement with the Synoptics); the three days and three nights in "the heart of the earth"; and much more besides. The chronology is continued down to the end of Acts with brief notes on all major events.

Ideal for Bible studies, theologians and the general Christian public, The Believer's Guide to Bible Chronology offers a fresh critical examination of biblical history. Find out more in this informative new book.

Charles Ozanne studied theology at Oxford University and Hebrew at Manchester University, obtaining his Ph.D. under the supervision of F.F. Bruce. He is also the author of Empires of the End Time, Through Daniel's telescopic lens (The Open Bible Trust, 2007).
