WASHINGTON, Feb. 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- In the latest posting on boycottnyt.com, editor Don Feder charged that in a Feb. 19 story, The New York Times tried to downplay the pro-abortion extremism of Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, President Obama's likely nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Feder noted that Sebelius, who's been called "the national pro-choice poster girl":

  • Vetoed a bill to strengthen restrictions on partial-birth abortions in 2007

  • Vetoed other abortion limits in 2003, 2005 and 2006

  • Recruited and funded a candidate to run against then Attorney General Phil Kline, who was prosecuting partial-birth abortionist George Tiller

  • Is accused of laundering campaign contributions from Tiller to pro-abortion candidates

  • Is reported to have held a private party for Tiller and the staff of his abortion clinic at the governor's mansion in 2007, at a time when he was under investigation by the Attorney General's office

The governor, a Roman Catholic, was rebuked by Kansas City, Kansas Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann, who asked Sebelius not to take communion due to her "scandalous behavior that has misled people into dangerous behavior."

Feder observed that none of this was mentioned in The Times story, which he said sought to portray a rabidly pro-abortion governor in the most positive terms imaginable.

He concludes, "If George W. Bush had nominated for Secretary of HHS a governor associated with Operation Rescue, you can bet The New York Times would have reported it in more than two sentences buried in an article touting the nominee as a well-qualified moderate."

Feder's commentary is available here.
