LAKE MARY, Fla., May 6, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Mordecai Project, an organization that aims to confront abuse, empower women and transform nations, has partnered with Christian Life Missions to help the ministry raise $100,000 to purchase a new building for a girls' home in Tanuku, India.

Gender prejudice in India is at an all-time high with six out of 10 men admitting to have committed violent acts against their wives. More than 300,000 crimes against women are reported annually. The Thomson Reuters Foundation reports that India's women are discriminated against, abused and even killed on a scale unparalleled in the top 19 economies of the world.

Shemeer Padinzjharedil, of Maps4aid.com (a website that maps & documents crimes against women) states: "It's a miracle a woman survives in India. Even before she is born she is at risk of being aborted due to our obsession for sons. As a child she faces abuse, rape, and early marriage and even when she marries she is killed for dowry. If she survives all of this, as a woman, or widow, she is discriminated against and given no rights over inheritance or property."

The Mordecai Project's vision is to partner with local churches and ministries in the developing world to establish women's empowerment centers. These will provide:

  • Care and education for orphan girls (as well as assistance to place them in adoptive homes).

  • Shelter, healing and vocational training for women who must leave their husbands to escape violence.

  • Training for women who are called to church or ministry leadership.

The Mordecai Project has already begun work on its first girls' home in India with 33 girls, as well as a shelter in Colombia, however funding is needed to complete the project.
