Single Mom Receives Bill for a Strep Test from a For-Profit Hospital of $2,780.75

GAINESVILLE, Fla., Dec. 3, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- Single mother Lorilyn Roberts and her 15-year-old daughter visited an emergency room at a for-profit hospital. "When we walked into the emergency room at North Florida Regional Healthcare in Gainesville, Florida, I told them my daughter just needed a strep test. A week later I received a bill for $2,780.75."

The Blue Cross contract with North Florida Regional Healthcare reduced the total to $1,400.00. The hospital offered a 30 percent discount for immediate payment in full, which brought the total down to $980. "I still consider that way too much," says Ms. Roberts. "As someone who already pays high health insurance premiums, made worse by Obamacare, this is not affordable to me."
