WASHINGTON, April 1, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Washington DC based Christian Defense Coalition will hold a Prayer Vigil for Peace and Protection outside Afghanistan Embassy tonight.

Event Details---

What: Prayer Vigil for Peace and Protection

When: Friday, April 1, 2011; 11:45 PM

Where: In front of the Afghanistan Embassy, 2341 Wyoming Ave. NW, Washington, D.C.

Who: Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Kristopher Keating, Director of Hillside Missions in Richmond, Virginia, and other Christians

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, traveled to Gainesville, Florida, in September and returned to Washington, D.C. with 225 Qur'ans (photo). Since then Rev. Mahoney has been distributing the Qur'ans to churches across America encouraging Christians to pray for their Islamic neighbors.

The Christian Defense Coalition condemns the reported burning of the Qur'an at the church of Pastor Terry Jones and will be praying for peace and protection in Afghanistan this evening and sending a powerful message that Christians love Muslims.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states,

"As Christians, we are called to share the gospel of Christ and build bridges to our Muslim neighbors, not burn them. Tonight we will be gathering as a peaceful and prayerful witness to that truth and send a powerful message that God has called us to love and not hate.

"We warned Pastor Jones in September that lives, especially Christians, would be put at risk if he went through with burning the Qur'ans. Sadly, this has now proven to be the case. Our prayer is that there will be no more violence and no more innocent lives lost."

Kristopher Keating, Director of Hillside Missions, adds,

"My prayer tonight is like that of the Apostle Paul in Philippians 1:9 where he says, 'And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in the knowledge and depth of insight.'

"We will pray for Peace in Afghanistan, that love abounds in the Church in America and that our love as Christians would propel us to love our neighbors around the world."
