SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 14, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- Bobby Schindler doesn't want what was done to his sister to ever happen to anyone else. That's the motivation behind Life Legal Defense Foundation's Saturday evening forum in Santa Clara, "How to Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones from a Hastened Death." Schindler's sister, Terri Schiavo, died in 2005 as a result of court-forced withholding of food and water in a long-running legal battle that held the attention of the nation. Now Schindler delivers practical insight on how to defend love ones against undesired withdrawal of life sustaining care.

"From California's Robert Wendland to Terri Schiavo, the past several decades have seen a proliferation of conflicts regarding life-sustaining care," said Dana Cody, Executive Director of the Life Legal Defense Foundation. "These controversies have been fueled by conflicting ideologies and cultural forces and the acceptance of the belief that hastening death is an acceptable form of 'treatment.'

Cody hailed California Supreme Court Justice Kathryn Mickle Werdegar, who wrote of the court's unanimous Wendland decision, "The decision to treat is reversible. The decision to withdraw treatment is not."

At the Saturday night forum in Santa Clara, Schindler will share his personal experience with Terri's forced premature death and discuss how to protect the innocent and disabled from this threat. Bedolla and Cody will address medical directives and offer insights as to how Obamacare will impact an individual's right to receive medical treatment.
