WASHINGTON, May 23, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- In honor of our veterans, past and present, Congressman Bill Johnson reintroduced the D-Day Landing Prayer Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill was also reintroduced in the U.S. Senate.

Ohio Christian Alliance President Chris Long stated, "We are pleased that members of Congress are as committed as we are to seeing the inclusion of this prayer, honoring those brave men and women who served us in WWII, become a permanent addition to the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C."

Roosevelt prayed, "Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a might endeavor, a struggle to preserve our republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity...."

The bill was first introduced by Johnson during the 112th Congress, and was passed by the House. However, the Senate did not vote on this legislation, and it expired. This reintroduction will allow the bill to once again be placed on the desk of Senate Leader, Harry Reid.

Congressman Johnson released the following statement: "'Let Our Hearts Be Stout' - that is the prayer President Franklin D. Roosevelt prayed on the morning our troops landed on the beaches of Normandy. He had a tremendous weight on his shoulders the morning of June 6, 1944, and as he sent 73,000 U.S. soldiers into enemy territory, he turned to God to find comfort and peace.

"This bill asks my fellow Statesmen to place a plaque inscribed with this prayer on the official World War II Memorial, here in Washington. Today, I am reintroducing this legislation, and this time we cannot allow it to end up on the Senate's cutting room floor. FDR's prayer is an important part of our nation's history, and it deserves its rightful place in our memoriam."
