Author Shows Teens What 'Real Love' Looks Like

Contact: Kelli Bolton, 614-599-0197

MEDIA ADVISORY, Oct. 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- Kelli Bolton's dedication to young people is evident as she shows them what a positive image of "love" looks like in her debut novel "You Said You Loved Me" a Christian fiction book addressing teen dating and domestic violence.

The book details the ills of a relationship of two teenagers that ends due to domestic violence. It provides the reader with a helpful guide to evaluate the level of domestic violence in their relationship and also gives resources to assist the young person in getting help to leave that situation.

Mrs. Bolton has worked with at risk youth and families for the past ten years and been actively involved in the youth ministry of her church. With this experience, she used want she learned to write "You Said You Loved Me".

After the Chris Brown and Rhianna incident Mrs. Bolton states "God spoke to me and said a person can go back to an abuser, because they have been isolated and have heard 'I love you' over and over again that is why they stay. I Corinthians 13:4-8 is the Scripture that is used to help the young people see what 'Real Love' looks like. I wanted teens -- not just girls, but boys as well to see there is a difference in what a person says is love and how to show love."

Unlike most novels that address this issue, where the young girl is the victim of such vicious abuse, Mrs. Bolton decided to portray the young man Mark Parks as the abused and Kayla Michaels as the abuser. "My reason for doing this was, once the news about young Hollywood's hottest couple broke, many young girls were questioning Rhianna's behavior as to 'What would make him do that?'"

With that question in mind she purposely made the main female character the villain. The story takes place in a Christian school and the Christian community plays a huge role in this story. The reason being Mrs. Bolton states, "This is a serious problem that is growing and needs to be addressed in the church, while there are many youth that attend Christian schools and are active in their youth groups, they still interact with the world and I wanted to show them how to address their feelings in a positive manner."
