ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Jan. 18, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- American Family Radio(AFR), a division of American Family Association, has come together with Faith Comes By Hearing (FCBH) -- the world's foremost Audio Bible ministry -- to help raise awareness and funds for the ministry's Military BibleStick project.

The Military BibleStick is a digital audio player pre-loaded with a dramatized recording of the entire New Testament. About the size of a pack of chewing gum for easy portability, the unit was designed for use on military deployment.

AFR has designated the week of January 24 as Military Appreciation Week and will encourage their listeners to come alongside them in supporting our troops with God's Word in audio. For every $25 given by listeners, FCBH will provide one soldier with a BibleStick. The $25 not only covers shipping and packaging, but also allows FCBH to offer Audio Bibles on MP3 discs to soldiers' families back home.

Since the ministry's military outreach began in 2008, more than 85,000 BibleSticks have been provided to military chaplains free of charge. The chaplains can use the devices during counseling or when providing encouragement to deployed troops overseas or those awaiting deployment here at home. They are also being used by chaplains in military hospitals to comfort wounded soldiers, rehabilitating from injuries sustained on the battlefield.

"AFR's partnership comes at a crucial time, as our troops' demand for these devices has been overwhelming," says Jon Wilke, ministry spokesman for the Military BibleStick project.

"Chaplains continue to tell us these are among the most requested items they have," continues Wilke. "And our heart as a ministry is to make sure that every request is met."

Currently, FCBH is working to meet a backorder of nearly 18,000 BibleSticks, with a priority being given to troops deployed overseas and those recovering from injuries.

With Military Appreciation Week, AFR continues a tradition of standing strong with the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Dr. Buster Wilson, American Family Radio's general manager states, "The AFR family is proud to provide whatever support and comfort we can to the brave members of our military who risk their lives to defend our freedom here at home. In this instance, it is helping supply our troops with God's Word in audio."

AFR has 193 stations in 33 states, with affiliates in 5 others. Their programming is also available on the web at www.afa.net/radio/, with the AFA Channel at www.afa.net.
