PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 23 /Christian Newswire/ -- Spanning a multitude of genres, Today Is the Day is the newest collection of songs from Timothy R. Smith. The 12 worship-based tracks on this CD bring together the best of Tim's new compositions in styles from classic to contemporary, engaging the mind and the heart with thoughtful melodies and texts taken from Scripture.

"I tried to straddle both contemporary and traditional forms so that they would resonate with any number of liturgical ensembles and assemblies, from youth to more traditional ears," said Smith. "If I can facilitate some common ground musically, maybe that opens other doors for a worship community to come together in their experience of formation and evangelization."

The album title connects Saint Paul's Ash Wednesday call, "Now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2) with the joy of the Easter's responsorial, "This is the day the Lord has made..." (Psalm 118:24). Straddling both the journey of Lent and the joy of Eastertide, the mandate is constant: Today is the day of conversion and joyful proclamation of the Good News through word and action.

For this project, Smith was inspired to create music that conveys the conversion, formation and evangelization animated through the journey of Lent, the fulfillment of the resurrection and Christ's ultimate command to "Go make disciples" (Matthew 28:10). Today Is the Day is a collection that contemplates the challenges and also embraces the joys of the ongoing faith journey. Perfect for multigenerational worship or personal meditation, these songs are designed to unite and engage a variety of listeners.

Priced at $17.00, the CD is available for purchase at ocp.org/20998.
