OPINION, Feb. 27, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Dr. Joseph Chavady submits the following and is available for comment:

Our enemy is a master at lying. Jesus calls him the "Father of lies." Some of his deceptions are completely the opposite of truth, but others are a mixture of truth and falsehood. But the result of such a mixture is pure evil--and it is here that we have to be alert, even as Christians. Just as a little sugar makes a bitter medicine go down, so lies are more easily accepted when mixed with truth.

Believers in the West seem to be lacking spiritual discernment and they are easily deceived. We must test all teaching to see if falsehood has been mixed with truth, or if we accept it as truth simply because the teacher is from an established institution, or seems such a "good person" or has a PhD.

All lies come from Satan. Seducing spirits are at work in our time, and their ceaseless aim is to deceive and ruin people (2 Timothy 3:13).

What is the cure? We must repent and ask God to cleanse us from accepting deceiving spirits and being deceived, and as we do so, our discernment for truth will grow stronger.
