Interfaith Committee of Security Experts Collaborates in Response to Violence and Crimes against Houses of Worship

WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 /Christian Newswire/ -- In response to incidents of violence and other crimes against churches and other houses of worship, ASIS International (www.asisonline.org), the world's largest organization for security professionals, has recently launched a new Faith-Based Organization Security Committee.

Jeffrey Hawkins, founder and executive director of the Christian Security Network (www.christiansecuritynetwork.org), has been appointed to lead the new committee. Mr. Hawkins is available for interviews and guest appearances regarding:

  • The launch of the Faith-Based Organization Security Committee
     
  •  The importance of interfaith participation in developing comprehensive security standards and best practices for houses of worship
     
  • Crimes against Christian churches and other houses of worship
     
  • Specific crimes against Christian churches in 2009

Hawkins is a noted subject matter expert on the topic of security, with an emphasis on security for churches and faith-based organizations. He is the author of "Introduction to Security and Emergency Planning for Faith-Based Organizations," as well as numerous articles for such publications as "The Counter Terrorist;" "Law and Order;" "Police" magazine; "Security Management" "Security; Technology & Design;" and "Safety and Health."

Members of the new ASIS committee, security professionals from various religious communities, will address the major security risks that houses of worship and faith-based organizations are facing. This marks the first time in the organization’s history an interfaith committee has been formed to develop best practices and standards for the faith-based sector.
