TUCSON, Az., Jan. 12, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Family Life Radio Network hosted a meeting Monday, January 10th, as over 50 chaplains and church representatives met for the purpose of forming a "united front" to address the needs of the community in times of crisis or tragedy.

Because this meeting was set several weeks before the shootings that occurred on Saturday, January 8th, everyone attending knew the purpose for being together was very "providential" and was the impetus to form a new "Tucson CEN Chapter."

What Is a CEN Chapter?
CEN Chapters across the nation are helping to prepare local Christian communities (via individuals, churches and ministries) to successfully respond to crisis and disaster events of all sizes from a biblical perspective.

Local CEN Chapters (Like the one in Tucson) are gearing up to promote and offer preparedness training within churches and ministry groups to then be able to offer spiritual "best practices" to their own community's emergency response systems. It's the Christian who is uniquely gifted to respond and follow through. Teaching the Church how best to function within response systems is a key goal of a CEN Chapter.

Founder and President of CEN, Mary Marr, told those attending the meeting, "God is using uncertain times to wake up the Greater Church. We can view emergencies as an opportunity to fulfill the Great Commission, whether it's reaching out to a relative or neighbor who's just lost someone dear, or meeting needs of those in our church or community, or getting involved in preparing a nation with the gospel of Jesus Christ that surpasses all understanding before, during and after any crisis. Crisis situations open up hearts to God; it's a tender time to be the Church."

It was a unanimous decision by those attending the Monday meeting that they need to take this step as all have been trained to be chaplains and they realize this gives them the platform to be able to accomplish more by "working together through better organization and procedures" in times of crisis.
