COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Oct. 24, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- With more than 30 years of experience in Christian radio, Scott Thunder is lending his voice for the voiceless children living in poverty. According to Mark Pluimer, One Child Matters' president, this only strengthens their effective outreach to children living in poverty around the globe.

"I've always valued the power of radio to draw a listener in and open their eyes to what God is doing in the world," Pluimer said. "We've seen time and again how involving entire communities can create tremendous impact on children's lives."

One Child Maters' Vice President of Communications, Michael Calhoun, firmly agrees. "Radio is the perfect way to connect a cause like ours to people's hearts, and Scott inherently understands this."

Scott Thunder's extensive involvement in both Christian radio and the Christian music industry began in Seattle at KCMS as an on-air personality. Thunder rose in the ranks, becoming the program director and then General Manager. From there he served as program director at Morningstar Radio Network in Nashville before moving on to write and produce the CCM Radio Magazine and the CCM Countdown with Gary Chapman. He also pursued radio partnerships in the nonprofit arena to great success.

"When he was with Bible League International, he helped send over 1 million bibles to more than 50 countries," shared Rick Mitchell, the Vice President of Marketing and Development at One Child Matters. "Scott's three decades of radio experience also help him understand a radio station's unique needs. He can help us continue to build long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships with radio stations."

One Child Matters has partnered with radio stations for years, pioneering on-air child sponsorship drives called 28 Hours of Mercy. "We are building on the strength of our past radio partnerships. I've taken several mission trips with radio teams, helping them broadcast their experience with sponsorship back home," Mark Pluimer said. "It never fails to connect on a deeper level with listeners. We love serving the heart and vision of radio stations!"
