DENVER, Aug. 5 /Christian Newswire/ -- Promise Keepers has cancelled its Los Angeles men’s conference, scheduled for Oct. 20-21, 2006.  The L.A. cancellation is only the second time in 16 years and 220 events that a scheduled conference has been cancelled.

“Irreconcilable scheduling issues with the venue forced the cancellation,” said Dr. Tom Fortson, president and CEO of Promise Keepers.  “We are extremely disappointed, but we fully expect to present a conference in southern California in the future.”

Men holding registrations for the Oct. 2006 Los Angeles conference may apply their admission in any of four ways:

  • Apply their registration to another 2006 event ( for example, Sacramento on Oct. 6-7 or Glendale, Ariz. on Oct. 13-14) and receive a free bonus registration,

  • Apply their registration to any 2007 event (for example, Tucson on Sept. 28-29, 2007 or Fresno on Oct. 12-13, 2007), plus a free bonus registration,

  • Request a refund,

  • Donate their registration to Promise Keepers (a non-profit 501(c)3 organization) as a tax-deductible contribution to the ministry.

All Los Angeles registration holders must contact Promise Keepers with their new registration preferences by calling 1-866-PROMISE (866-776-6473).  The reassignment deadline is October 31, 2006.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY

Promise Keepers’ mission is to ignite and unite men to become passionate followers of Jesus Christ through the effective communication of seven promises to God, his fellow men, family, church and the world.  Promise Keepers’ vision is simply put in three words: “Men Transformed Worldwide.”

2006 is Promise Keepers’ 16th year of conference ministry.  The international ministry to men based in Denver, Colorado has directly reached more than five and a half million men since its founding in 1990.  Multitudes more have been reached through books, music CDs, multi-media resources, the Internet, satellite and radio broadcasts.  In 1997, an estimated one million men gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. for “Stand in the Gap,” marking arguably the largest gathering of Christian men in modern U.S. history.
