Georgia Right to Life Rejects Hijacked Abortion Bill

NORCROSS, Ga., June 18, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- Georgia Right to Life President Dan Becker today urged all Georgia Congressmen to vote against a deeply flawed, discriminatory abortion bill now before Congress that imposes the death sentence on one group of children.

"This bill was originally designed to save all innocent life," Becker said. "Sadly, the politics of compromise has decided that one class of children -- those conceived by rape or incest -- do not deserve protection from the agony of literally being ripped apart."

The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, introduced by U.S. Representative Trent Franks (R-AZ), originally banned all abortions after 20 weeks, the point at which proven science has shown a pre-born child is capable of feeling and reacting to pain.

However, the measure was later amended to include an exception that allows abortions for rape and incest victims.

"Children conceived by rape or incest are no different than any other child that feels the pain of the abortionists forceps," Becker added. "This bill now makes them something less -- a subclass of human beings that can be painfully disposed and tossed in the garbage."

Becker added: "It's ironic that so many people who proudly call themselves loving and compassionate are so willing to impose the death sentence on a completely innocent pre-born child who has committed no crime."

Becker also noted the irony that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that rapists and child molesters don't deserve the death penalty.

"Shame on us as a nation for imposing a stricter sentence on the victims of such crimes -- the children -- than we do on the perpetrators.

"We should not callously sacrifice human life based on the manner of conception or political expediency," Becker said.

Pro-life activist Rebecca Kiessling added: "This abortion ban relies on the fact that babies feel pain in the womb and shouldn't be made to suffer. Babies conceived in rape feel no less pain than babies conceived under the happiest circumstances. People like me, who were conceived in rape, feel the pain of being targeted for death every day."
