Supporters and representatives of Gay and Protect Marriage campaigns are expected to have a large turnout for the legal review of this crucial and contentious ballot measure.

By law, state legislative hearings are held prior to elections to examine ballot issues before the voters. Proposition 8, the Protect Marriage Act, puts front and center whether the rights of adults or the rights of children will come first in California.

Speaking in favor of the Protect Marriage Act will be Andy Pugno, J.D. a specialist in political and election law at the local, state and national level, and Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, a respected specialist in family and cultural behaviors, and former professor of Economics at Yale University.

Proposition 8, The Protect Marriage Act, would reverse the ruling of California's Supreme Court this past May which legalized gay marriage. The proposition would amend the state constitution defining marriage as a union only between a man and woman. Forty-four out of fifty states currently have laws which protect traditional marriage. Twenty-six of those states have put into place constitutional amendments defining marriage as a union between a man and woman.
