Tea Party Unity Head Says Killing Judicial Filibuster One More Sign Obama is Out of Control

NACOGDOCHES, Texas, Nov. 21, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- "There's a reason why 41 Senators have been able to block a judicial nominee in the past," said Tea Party Unity Chairman Rick Scarborough commenting on the Senate's 52-48 vote today to eliminate the judicial filibuster.

"Judges have lifetime tenure. Activist judges can read their views into the Constitution. We saw it when the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act this year and upheld ObamaCare last year."

"But frustrated by his inability to ram some of the most radical nominees in history through the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid -- with the president cheering from the sidelines -- just abolished the judicial filibuster. Now, all Reid needs is 51 votes, out of 55 Senate Democrats, to confirm literally anyone the president nominates."

Scarborough noted: "Obama has chosen leftists like Cornelia Pillard, one of his three pending nominations to the powerful D.C. Appeals Court. Pillard has said abstinence education is unconstitutional and that any restrictions on abortion promote a 'vision of the woman's role as mothers and caregivers.'

"When the Senate last voted on Pillard, Reid mustered only 56 votes to invoke cloture instead of the 60 needed. Now, with the filibuster killed by the simple majority vote required for a rules change, Pillard will sail through," Scarborough explained. "The president could even nominate his Marxist buddy Bill Ayers to the federal bench and probably get him confirmed."

When he was a U.S. Senator in 2005, Barack Obama supported the judicial filibuster enthusiastically: "Everyone in this chamber knows that if the majority chooses to end the filibuster, if they choose to change the rules and put an end to democratic debate, then the fighting, the bitterness, and the gridlock will only get worse."

Scarborough: "Senator Obama was right. President Obama is wrong. You would think the spectacular failure of ObamaCare would have tempered his hubris. Instead, it's fed his already enormous ego. Truly, this president is out of control."
