WASHINGTON, Sept. 8 /Christian Newswire/ -- On Sunday, September 13, at 7:00 P.M. Christians will be gathering on the West Lawn of the United States Capitol for 27 hours of intercession and worship. Believers will be crying out for God to intervene in the national health care debate and ensure that taxpayer funds and not used to pay for abortions.

The Christian Defense Coalition, Pro-Life Unity, The Family Research Council and a coalition of pro-life groups are sponsoring the event, which will be presented at a press conference at the Family Research Council on Wednesday, September 9th, 2009 in Washington D.C. at 11:00 A.M. EST.

"If public monies are used to pay for abortions," says Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, "it would add at least 25 years to our struggle to end abortion in America because abortion would then become an entitlement."

Peter Shinn, President of Pro-Life Unity agrees. "The job of Congress is to create law, not organizations which compete with private corporations." he states. "We also are convinced that Congress wants to use this health care bill to sneak in provisions which will publicly finance abortion and human killing research."

A live broadcast of the press conference will be streamed online at the Pro-Life Unity website - http://prolifeunity.com.

27 Hours is sponsored by:
The Christian Defense Coalition, Bound for Life, The Fredericksburg Prayer Furnace, Generation Life, Survivors, Grace Church of Fredericksburg, Operation Rescue, Pro-Life Unity, The National Black Pro-Life Union, Faith and Action, The Network of Politically Active Christians and the Family Research Council.
