Alabama Foundation Stands Against Obama Nominee
Contact: John Eidsmoe, Foundation for Moral Law, 334-262-1245

MONTGOMERY, Ala., March 17, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Foundation for Moral Law, an Alabama-based legal foundation dedicated to the defense of the Constitution as strictly interpreted according to the intent of its Framers, announced its opposition to President Obama's nomination of Judge Merrick Garland to fill Justice Antonin Scalia's seat on the United States Supreme Court.

According to Foundation President Kayla Moore, Garland's confirmation would ensure a Leftist majority on the Court for the foreseeable future. "Our religious liberty as well as our right to keep and bear arms are in jeopardy. The next justice will be critical to our country. We may very well lose our rights government is suppose to protect." Ms. Moore called upon conservatives, Christians, and all who believe in a constitutional republic to urge their Senators to oppose confirmation.

Foundation Senior Counsel John Eidsmoe added, "The Court has injected itself into all sorts of political matters, and therefore it is appropriate for Senators to consider the political balance as they advise and consent to Supreme Court nominees. While the public elected a Democrat as President in 2012, they also elected a Republican Senate in 2014. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's determination not to hold hearings is the right way to handle this. Considering that Senator Obama filibustered against the nomination of Justice Alito in 2006, his insistence that the Senate confirm Judge Garland during an election year is pure hypocrisy."
