Would Jesus Eat a $28,500 Dinner While People are Homeless from Hurricanes and Struggling to Keep a Roof Over Their Heads

WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 /Christian Newswire/ -- Shameful $28,500 per plate fundraiser by Senator Obama is a slap in the face to the middle and working class of America and betrays faith values.

It clearly shows how out of touch Senator Obama is with middle class America.

Senator Obama's recent fundraiser in Beverly Hills, after dramatic loses in the stock market and corporation bankruptcies, demonstrates he has little respect or regard for struggling people in America.

This fundraiser is also taking place while tens of thousands of people have lost their homes from Hurricane Ike and Gustav and are living in shelters and eating emergency rations.

The question must be asked, how much time has Senator Obama spent in Louisiana and Texas helping the victims of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike?

As a candidate of faith who talks about reaching out to the poor and needy, Senator Obama's opulent fundraiser dinner clearly proves his spirituality is more concerned about raising millions of dollars for his political campaign then raising the hopes of millions of suffering Americans.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, comments, "It is absolutely shameful and disgraceful, that while millions of people are struggling to keep a roof over their heads and thousands in Texas and Louisiana actually have no roofs over their heads, Senator Obama is holding this $28,000 per plate fundraiser in Beverly Hills.  This is a slap in the face to every struggling American during these challenging financial times and shows how out of touch Senator Obama is.

Senator Obama is clearly more interested is raising millions of dollars for his political campaign than raising the hopes of suffering Americas.  The question must be asked, how much time has Senator Obama spent helping the victims of Hurricane Ike and Gustav over the past couple of weeks?  The reality is, Senator Obama has spent more time raising millions of dollars for his campaign and eating extravagant meals with Hollywood producers then working to help rebuild the lives of those torn apart by recent hurricanes.

It is a mockery for Senator Obama to extol his Christian faith and dedication to the poor while showing a cavalier disregard and disrespect for the struggling and broken.  While Senator Obama is dining on the most expensive and extravagant food in America, thousands in Texas and Louisiana have lost everything.

I would suggest to Senator Obama instead of quoting Matthew 25 as his favorite Bible verse, that he begins to live it and starts reaching out 'to the least of these.'  Faith and social justice are not commodities to get votes during a Presidential election but principles that should daily govern our lives."
