Pregnancy Center Founder Comments on Appeals Court Decision

Re: Decision of the en banc Court of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eight Circuit Planned Parenthood v. Rounds, Alpha Center, et al Docket Nos.: 09-3231/3233/3362

US Court of Appeals en banc Court declares that South Dakota's statute that requires abortion doctors to disclose to pregnant mothers that an abortion places the mother at increased risk for suicide ideation and suicide constitutional because the disclosure is truthful, non-misleading, and relevant to the pregnant mother's decision of whether or not to consent to an abortion.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., July 24, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- The following is submitted by Leslee J. Unruh, Founder and President of Alpha Center, Sioux Falls, SD:

Today will be a marker throughout history. It is a victory not only for the 52 million who have lost their lives to the atrocity of abortion, but to the women who have also been victimized by the profit-hungry abortion industry since 1973. The 8th District Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the women will now be given additional important information before they consent to an abortion: that the abortion procedure places a woman at increased risk of suicide and suicide ideation.

Any decision that a pregnant mother makes in the context of her considering an abortion that will deprive her of the joy and fulfillment of a life long relationship with her child must be totally voluntary and well-informed. The victory today is a step towards achieving that goal for the women of South Dakota.

As HB 1166 was being debated in Pierre during the 2005 legislative session, one woman stood on the Capitol steps in the freezing cold as snow fell all around her. The weather was chilling, but what she held was even more chilling. In her hands, she held a sign that read, "I am holding this sign, because I cannot hold my two children. Vote yes on HB 1166." As the snow hit the sign, the marker bled and started running: the ink on the sign closely resembling the tears on her face.

Today's 8th District Circuit Court of Appeals decision is a victory for all women who have ever been deceived into thinking that aborting their unborn children was the "only easy way out." Thank you to the many women who testified: recounting their tragic story so that other women may not be made victim to the business of abortion. You have surrendered your secret to make this law possible. We thank you!
