GAFFNEY, S.C., Jan. 5, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ --  A heartbreaking trend of dumbing down bible teaching often occurs in our churches when men and women with little to no teaching training lead small group Bible study classes. A new book, titled Capturing God's Passion for Teaching examines the change that could take place if Bible teachers were trained to teach God's Word.

Ephesians 4:12 calls for churches to "equip the saints for the work of ministry."  Dr. Terry Lanford, Pastor of Grassy Pond Baptist Church in Gaffney, S.C., wrote this book as a tool to address that challenge.

Capturing God's Passion for Teaching serves to explore the impact that could be made if teachers knew how to study the Scriptures in depth, to pray through a passage, to prepare lesson plans and to be attentive to what God wants to say through them.

In a review of this book Dr. Elmer Towns, co-founder of Liberty University, said, "This book by Terry Lanford points out the strength of small groups and how to teach the word of God in Groups."

Author and apologist Dr. Alex McFarland said, "Though Hosea 4:6 was written about ancient Israel, the assessment is applicable for much of the church today: 'My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.' Dr. Terry Lanford has created a wonderful new resource to improve the church's levels of teaching and learning."

Dr. Lanford acquired his Doctorate of Ministry at North Greenville University. He actively trains small group Bible teachers to study Scripture and develop lesson plans for small group settings.
