ENUMCLAW, Wash., October 24 /Christian Newswire/ -- Nancy Rose Wissinger studies birds, collects birds' nests and, in her new devotional book "Under His Wings: Devotionals for Bird Lovers," encourages the 65 million bird enthusiasts in the United States to "spend a few minutes each day in God's Word and gain insights into what God can teach us from the world of birds."

Nancy is a wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, public speaker, former director of women's ministries, and a long-time participant in Stonecroft Ministries. She uses bird lore, poetry, music, humor, science, and the Bible to show us truths that we can see in God's care of birds. She says, "He is protective, He cares about the details in our lives, He wants our attention, He provides for our needs. She adds, "The main message of the book is the spiritual lessons we can learn from the world of birds--from the omnipotence of God to the plan of salvation." She tells her readers that, "Faith gives us wings," but also "pride can blind us to very large hawks."

Under His Wings is a collection of 105 devotionals, each with an interesting insight or discovery about birds. For example, she tells her readers that a homing pigeon will fly 1500 miles in three days to get home. Most female birds choose their mate based on how well he can sing. One African bird protects his family by sealing his mate and their babies in a tree and feeding them all through a hole. Nancy adds a spiritual lesson such as the danger of greed, the importance of Bible study, or hanging on to God in a crisis. She closes the devotional with an assignment for personal application and a prayer.
