EDMOND, Okla., July 24, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Bible App™ by YouVersion, which recently reached the colossal milestone of 100 million downloads, joining major brands like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter that have achieved the same landmark, has added the New American Bible Revised Edition (NABRE), one of the most popular Catholic versions of the Bible approved by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The Bible App, which is completely free, contains over 600 versions of the Bible in over 350 languages. Available for virtually every mobile device, the app allows people of faith to access their version of the Bible on their smart phones and tablets.

In a special survey with the world's largest digital Bible community, more than 77 percent of YouVersion users report that they read the Bible more frequently because they have it on their mobile device that accompanies them virtually everywhere.

With the Vatican in recent years emphasizing the prayerful reading of sacred Scripture and its importance to every Catholic believer, Archbishop Cardinal Francis George of Chicago and Archbishop Charles J. Chaput of Philadelphia applauded the move.

"Holy Scripture is inspired by the Holy Spirit and given to us in the Church so that we might immerse our lives in the ways of God. Disciples of the Lord can be grateful that the New American Bible Revised Edition is now available on YouVersion. It will help us introduce to Jesus those to whom He calls us to witness," said Archbishop George.

"I am delighted to learn that New American Bible Revised Edition is available through YouVersion. The Word of God nourishes, strengthens and maintains the life of the Christian Community. The Word of God presses us to go further into the realm of mission and building the Kingdom..." added Archbishop Caput.

NABRE joins other Catholic versions of the Bible already available in English on the Bible App including Douay-Rheims, Good News Bible (GNBDC & GNBDK) and The Contemporary English Version (CEV).

In Spanish, the following versions are also available: La Biblia Hispanoamericana Traducción Interconfesional (BHTI), Bibilia Dios Habla Hoy (DHHD), Traducción En Lenguaje Actual con Deuterocanónicos (TLAD), La Biblia Traducción Interconfesional, (BTI, versión española), and Dios Habla Hoy Con Deuterocanónicos Versión Española (DHHED)

YouVersion is a ministry of LifeChurch.tv, a multi-site church based in Oklahoma. Meeting in 16 different physical locations and globally online, the church is devoted to helping people around the world become fully devoted followers of Christ.
