World Vision Blind to the Truth about Israel
Contact: Stephen Jenks, Eagles' Wings, 716-759-1058

NEW YORK, Feb. 6, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- Likening support for the Jewish state to endorsing historical evils like apartheid and the Spanish Inquisition, Steve Haas, vice president of World Vision, attacks both Israel and Christians that support Israel in recently published excerpts from a speech he gave at a prominent seminary last year.

In his comments he describes Israel as an "apartheid state." He also says of those who hold to the belief of God's promise to Israel, "This theological position has backed the largest and longest occupation of another people group in modern history." Haas asserts that the economic hardship of the Palestinian people is due to Israeli "occupation" – without a mention of the responsibility of the Palestinian government.

Robert Stearns of Eagles' Wings challenges Haas' statements as he asserts, "When it comes to Israel, World Vision needs an eye exam." Stearns states, "The toxic mix of lies, ignorance, and half-truths that drive the global movement to delegitimize Israel have washed up at one of the most widely known international Christian aid organizations."

While affirming World Vision's commitment to social justice as one expression of our Christian faith, he challenges this charity that has an annual budget of $1 billion to re-examine the facts on the ground. "Israel today has the Middle East's only growing Christian population. In contrast, Hamas is forcibly converting, subjugating and murdering the Christians of Gaza, while the Palestinian Authority has imposed laws inspired by Sharia and discriminatory practices that have left Christians feeling increasingly uneasy and fearful," says Stearns. He states, "In a situation that calls for depth and thoughtfulness, Steve Haas' narrow and dangerously one-sided presentation is quite far from what one would expect from a 'Christian peacemaker.'"
